Teacher Educator/Trainer for Citizenship and Research in International Education

What will you do 
We are seeking an enthusiastic and research informed international teacher educator to teach courses in Citizenship Education and Educational Research within our International Teacher Education programs. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic and international team and will contribute to high quality education, student supervision and coaching, curriculum development, and the ongoing innovation of the program (Innovative Educational Concept: DBE).   

Where will you be working 
At NHL Stenden, our International Teacher Education (ITE) campus offers a unique, high quality pathway for aspiring international teachers in primary and secondary education. Our programs are taught in English by experienced international educators, our courses foster a supportive, inclusive environment where students from diverse backgrounds can thrive. We believe that diversity enriches the learning experience and prepares our student teachers to thrive in multicultural classrooms. International Teacher Education consists of:

The bachelor courses ITEPS and ITESS, which are offered at our campus in Meppel.
A masters track ITE, which is an online master course with two residentials in Leeuwarden.
A professorship ITE  will also be located at our campus in Meppel.

Over 600 international students are part of our ITE community, and most of them live in or around Meppel. About 70 percent of them are non-Dutch and our staff mirrors this international diversity.

We welcome candidates with experiences and expertise from all over the world, and who want to deliver and co-create education to a diverse student body with a wide range of experience and perspectives. A fluency in academic English is an evident requirement, just like an awareness of current research in the areas of learning theory and a dedication to research-based practice. You will be part of the international ITE community located in Meppel, the Netherlands.

The ideal candidate has: 

  • A Master's degree in Citizenship Education, or a related field. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of citizenship education, democratic values, diversity, inclusion, ethics, sustainability, social justice.  
  • Knowledge of applied educational research methods and the ability to teach research skills, including data collection, analysis and ethics to bachelor students. 
  • Experience designing and delivering courses on citizenship education and research methodology. 
  • Experience teaching in (international) primary and/or secondary schools, with strong pedagogy and didactics. 
  • Familiarity with international curricula such as IB-PYP/MYP, English National Curriculum, IPC/IMYC, or American Common Core. 
  • Expertise in curriculum development is essential. 
  • Experience in supporting the professional development of groups of students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. 
  • Demonstrated dedication to research based practice and awareness of the intricacies of working within a multilingual and multicultural environment. 
  • Sustained knowledge of current developments in international education. 
  • Fluency in academic English.

Additonally  

  • Depending on your knowledge and experience, the salary is a maximum of € 6.677,44 (scale 11 Collective Labour Agreement for higher professional education) gross per month for a full-time position, excluding 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. 
  • This is a structural position and the contract is initially for one year, with an expectation of renewal. 
  • Your normal place of work is in Meppel, but you must be willing to travel if the job requires it.
